You know that feeling when you look around and everything else people are eating looks so much better than your meal? I think I just ordered wrong. It seems like the sweet dishes are the way to go! I ordered an omelet trying to be healthier for breakfast and soon regretted it when I saw everything else being served. My omelet wasn't bad, and it came with a side of hash browns, I always hate breakfast places that don't come with a side. This place definitely gets crowded so come early! We came at 8 and had no wait but when we were leaving there was a line. As we were finishing up they brought out their scones and those looked like the most amazing scones I had ever seen! They were the size of my face and homemade. Art Cliff is a staple here so make sure you visit when you come to the island, and order their scones!!

Great ambiance. Good quality ingredients. Execution was poor though. Corned beef hash is basically their home fries with some corned beef chunks in it very dry and not much flavor. Avocado and black bean crepe was again really dry. Had to order sour cream on side to dip in as my wife wasn't even going to eat it. The sour cream made it a lot better but they would do well to just pair it with a side of sour cream or salsa. Eggs Benedict was pretty good with a unique version of hollandaise that seemed to have a good deal of melted cheese in it. Home fries were forgettable. Service was poor for us as we kept having to ask the other waitresses if they could tell ours to get more coffee, hot sauce and the check. The other waitresses seemed very attentive and friendly so our service experience is probably not the norm.

I look forward to my breakfast at this lovely restaurant all winter long when I am not on the island. My favorite remains The Green Monster. Today we has the special, Grilled Banana Bread. Yummy! This place never disappoints!

I must say, Art Cliff Diner is truly worth the wait. Especially for first time visitors. This is a lovely little diner with exceptional food and service. They do not rush you here not matter how busy they appear. Great coffee, pots of tea, fresh squeezed juice and freshly baked goods. On my next visit I will go early on a week day just to avoid all the other first timers like I was!

This place is amazing you have to come early else you won't have a place to sit and wait for 45 mins lol I think they should get buzzers. The staff were friendly not really attentive my cup sat vacant without soda the duration of my meal. The food was phenomenal I got the pancakes again the best in al of Massachusetts trust me. I couldn't eat it all had I tried I would probably be laying on the side of a road in vineyard haven I could eat here day. The prices are reasonable based on servings

Still a great diner! We were lucky enough to have a reasonable wait today! From what I understand, anything under 45 minutes is a win! The service is terrific, the food is fantastic. We had: Eggs, bacon, cheddar and waffles - delicious!! Poached egg over corned beef hash - perfection We really love this diner. If you can get in, you won't be disappointed!!!

I wish I could give this restaurant 10 stars. I wish this restaurant was in my town. Service was spot on. Darling atmosphere, small, but oh so cozy. I had two of the best breakfasts I've ever had. The entrees are gourmet, the very best quality ingredients with wonderful creative combinations. I thought I had died and gone to heaven when I had the uber healthy Andean B-Vitamin Recharge: two farm fresh poached eggs on top of a veggie hash that included sweet potatoes, broccoli, red peppers (all uniformly cut perfectly) and swiss cheese. It was as beautiful as it was healthy and delicious. My friend tried the pancakes and they were to die for, so light & tasty dusted with a little powdered sugar, the best. The following day we tried the special, eggs benedict with lobster and bacon - hands down the most delicious breakfast I have ever had. Period. End of story.

Excellent quality food. Hostess disorganized and couldn't keep it straight. Waited over 1 hour and 20 minutes to be seated.

Why the wait at 7am? Because they're serving the best breakfast in Vineyard Haven, arguably the entire island. Except for that nana that makes a mean omelet. Go on with your bad self, Omelet Nana. The Southwestern Flannel Hash. It's Tex-Mex sensibility with a lumberjack's appetite. House corned beef with a couple fried eggs, a third of a ripe avocado, peppers, onions and a salsa fresca to help those oversized mouthfuls you're bound to take. Pace yourself, fool. Like scones? Get one here. Sure, they're like $6, but they're the size of a human head. A human head, people - that's the thing from which you're reading this. Everything's kitschy campy cool. A bit retro with mismatched mugs, bohemian menu options (they run a lunch, but brekkie's where it's at), and - I can not stress this enough - a wait always and forever. But when you get a table, hot damn are you in for a treat.

Hands-down the best breakfast in the entire island. The reviews are so true the Archcliffe has one of the best breakfast we ever had. It's a little small house, so get ready to wait but it's so worth it. My family and I are travelers and we love to eat well and this was such a delight. They have the best blueberry pancakes, as well as steak and eggs and cranberry scones. We stayed on the island for seven days and out of the seven days we ate five times for breakfast, highly recommend. The staff is wonderful and the place it's cute with an awesome song selection!

This was the best breakfast of my life. We settled into two bar seats as the place was slammed 1245. Staff are so accommodating and friendly. I had scrambled eggs over a Quinoa Sweet Potato Hash sort of dish. WOWSA. The scrambled eggs were light and fluffy delish. My man had honey and blueberry crepes and loaded home fries. DEAR GOD, is this food legal? Can't wait to go back..it's insane.

Very good just be ready for a long wait. Incredibly fun decor and great menu. Went there this morning, shared an amazing Belgian waffle and had the parmesan black pepper crepe with eggs, kale, and prosciutto all to myself. Everything is delicious. The service is wonderful as well! A must for anyone visiting the vineyard.

Great huevos rancheros. My wife had the smokin in the shower ( smoked salmon, Bagel, lox) and loved it. Portions were very big and it was a bit pricey, but that's the same every where in the cape in the summer. I thought the service was very good. Not sure why some are complaining. I have a tip for the tourists. Be nice, it goes a long way with the wait staff. They were all very friendly to us , even though I saw some pretty rude customer behavior.

  • Matthew K.

Consistently excellent. Great food and a surprising selection on the menu. My wife is committed to the (huge) bacon and cheddar crepe but I bounce around - last time getting the huavos rancheros (sp?) which came with black beans, chorizo, and a spicy guac /salsa thing - all made fresh. The cod cakes are also great as are the specials. If you're on the Vineyard, you should definitely schedule at least one breakfast or lunch here. Being a paper - the wait is often long for a table!

We came here back in May. This is the one place I really, really wanted to go that I had read about. They had a sign that said they would open 5/8 which was a Saturday. I am not sure what happened but they were not open that day. *heartbreak* Fortunately they were open Sunday the 9th so we got there and yes we did wait but it was worth the wait. It is a cute space that has original elements and decor harkening back to when they first opened int he 40s. (One guidebook said that the present owner was formerly a pastry chef at Blair House but I am not sure if this is still the case) This is one of the times when you really have to make some tough choices because everything on the menu looks tasty. I ended up getting the Black Bean cakes. I don't remember what my Mom got but we also shared a scone. The food was tasty and the staff was really nice and vigilant. (which I am sure is challenging as the summer goes on!)

  • Sondy C.

The food was great. It's from farm to table. We had the bullseye, that has a delish codfish cake at the bottom of 2 poached eggs. Also we orders their Irish breakfast, the bacon was very salty but the potato pancakes made up for it. I head their almond French toast is amazing. I'll have to order that next time when we visit.

  • Lilian M.

A very solid choice for breakfast. Try one of the skillet breakfasts. Be prepared to wait. They have a parking lot which is good in the crowded Vineyard. The food is delicious but the dishes didn't come out at the same time. Also, they acted like gluten-free option was some strange thing they had never heard of.

Why is Art Cliff Diner closed on Saturdays at the height of the summer tourist season when Yelp says it is open??

  • Rick B.

First time. Got off early ferry and were starving. I'm a picky eater, especially when it comes to eggs and omelettes. Have to say for a "diner" it was gourmet. Excellent service. Highly recommend.

Superb Recovery: Great homestyle food with sophistication. We had Sarah as our server, who provided detailed and attentive service. We ordered togo meals and then ended up dining at their picnic table when our plans were delayed. Unfortunately, the crepes weren't up to par compared to the first time we had them and needed to be returned. Gina, the chef/owner, re-made them completely herself and suggested that we have them on flatware instead of the styrofoam. The re-fire was EXCELLENT and included the missing shaved parmesan! Gina delivered it herself and chatted with us for a bit before returning to the kitchen. We seriously appreciated the special treatment of this superb recovery. We'll be back for a third experience!

I am not one for restaurant pancakes - but these blueberry pancakes were phenomenal. The food is great and wish I had breakfast here the entire time. Totally worth the bus or taxi from Oak Bluffs.

  • Jessica G.

A great find! worth the wait. They are closed saturday mornings, so we went there on a monday morning in line at 7am to get in. I ordered a omelet with spinach, tomato and mozzarella cheese and a short stack of pancakes. Both cooked to perfection and the food is just amazing. The downside if their is any is that the place is very small and not air conditioned, the waitresses don't really smile at all or look happy and I was not a fan of the coffee.

    (5)
  • Mahesh S.

Except for the lady who allowed 7 guests so far (still waiting) even though we mentioned that we were fine with a 2 top table as our kid is only 3, we liked everything else.

  • Ellen B.

Food is great but expensive but you expect that when your on vacation. The reason for the two star review is for the wait staff. Waitress was very unfriendly, no good morning, never came back to see if everything was ok or if I needed more coffee and just puts my check on the table with out a thank you. Nothing! She acted like she couldn't be bothered. AND this wasn't even their busy season!!

  • Nicole C.

We went here due to the yelp recommendations but we do not suggest to go before they are closing. Our omelets, potatoes, and even a pancake order we had were undercooked. The waitress we had was not interested in being to helpful and the wait was not worth it. We didn't even get our food at the same time and overall it was very disappointing.

Best breakfast ever. Go and know it's worth the wait. YUM. We love it, our kids love it. The regular menu is fantastic and the specials never disappoint. We love this place!!

This is the best breakfast I have ever had. I would eat here everyday if I could. Favorite place ever.

  • Chris B.

Our family of 6 waited over an hour to be seated. I think the staff could have offered to split us up (which they finally did) or moved tables together and gotten us in sooner. To be fair, there were a few, large parties at the same time. Had we gotten in within the 25 minute estimated wait time, this would have been a 4-5 Star experience. There's more to a high rating than great food. The breakfast and the coffee were very good. I had the almond-crusted French Toast. The service was ok, very friendly. I'd recommend it if you have four or less in your party. Also, recommend arriving at 1:00 pm, an hour before they close.

First they get my order wrong. Okay, busy place, an oops can happen. Bring the correct order, Morning star breakfast - scrabled eggs with ham on english muffin. First bite into it, its thinly sliced compressed ham, like the kind that comes pre-packaged in the cheap section of deli meats. Next bite included a nice long grey hair! That wasn't bad enough my daughter had hair in hers too!! Ready to vomit, I showed the mgr the hair, said I would be happy to pay for our coffee but we were not going to eat their food. She understood and comped the food/coffee. We left. Halfway down the block, the waitress comes running after us, apparently hadn't been told the circumstances. Guess she thought we would just run out on her. Wow... Didn't know we looked like those kind of people..... Bottom line- I'm sure like other places they have good/bad days, but Im NOT likely to ever try that place again

Creative menu, good ingredients, and at off-island prices. You can't really beat a breakfast here. And the food truck is AWESOME.

We go back here whenever we come to MV. We go early before the massive, delicious scones are gone. The food is consistently excellent. The daily specials are always interesting and creative - like the crushed Frosted Flakes French toast. Coffee is good. Service can be a little inconsistent, but forgivable because of the crowds.

If you like cheap deli sliced ham in your breakfast or large quantities of hair, this is the place for you... Mediocre service to boot. My mom and I went here for breakfast on my last day on the island. She'd had lunch here before and said it was pretty good. We had a lengthy wait, but didn't mind as we expected the food to be stellar. The menu is enormous - tons of options. I was definitely overwhelmed, so I chose what sounded most appealing at the time. The food arrived within 15 minutes. My mom's order was completely wrong. Mine was right. I waited to eat until hers was corrected. They brought the "corrected" version, but it was still not right. She figured she'd just deal with it since we wanted to get our day started. After her second bite, she found a long grey hair (her hair is short and light brown). I was chowing down on mine and also found a long blonde hair (mine is long and dark brown), so clearly the hair didn't belong to either of us. We tried to flag down our server who was nowhere to be found. When she did make an appearance, we still couldn't get her attention. Mind you, this is a small maybe 500 sq ft establishment. We got the attention of another server to explain the situation. She took the hair with her and went to the back of the house. A few minutes later she came out and said they'd cover the meal. We offered to pay for our coffees, but were asked not to. We thought that was odd, but whatever, we needed to move on with our day. As we were walking down the street to the hotel, or original server came bolting after us shouting "LADIES, LADIES WAIT!!!". We stop, turn around, and ask what this is all about. Apparently she thought we dined and dashed so she figured she'd track us down. We explained that the situation had already been handled, and told her it was quite strange, if not completely rude, to chase us down the street. Needless to say, I will not be returning!

Come early cause the line gets long. My only complaint is that some of the portions are small. Other than that it's a must.

Hands down the best breakfast on the Vineyard--or anywhere for that matter--after dozens of visits I've never had anything but great food and service; only problem is the sometimes lengthy way but its worth it!

  • Dean S.

They do not know how to estimate wait times. We were told the wait would be one hour. We did not get seated for over 90 minutes. Then waited for our order to be taken. Almost. 2 hours Not worth it !!!!

The food was awesome especially Almond in crusted french toast but the service was bland, staff lack personality, kind of a quick get you and get you out kind of attitude.

When I think extravagant breakfast I think the Art Cliff Diner in Vineyard Haven. I have yet to find a better breakfast selection anywhere. I love the specials. I love the menu variety, from frittatas, traditional, home made scones, specialty pancakes, stuffed French toast, huevos rancheros, and sweet potato beignets. Don't go on a diet... Art Cliff is so popular there are some challenges. There is often a wait, and limited parking. Even with these challenges it is still my favorite choice for breakfast. Enjoy.

Only suckers like us come. They cannot manage more than 2 at a time. If you are more of a group invest the morning. There only a few ways they can cook eggs.

We've been coming here in the fall off season for many years. Accordingly we seldom have to wait (maybe Thanksgiving weekend). With the "wait issue" out of the way lets head to the main purpose of any restaurant, the food. The food is very consistent for what is almost always made from scratch. The ingredient quality is always top notch. Sure sometimes orders get a little jumbled in the kitchen. But just a little and hey its a busy diner not haute cuisine so chill, you're at the Artcliff. I'll have a Beach Road to go...

No, no, no, no, no, no.... We went there 2 times during our week vacation. 1st time was pleasant, 2nd time was not good, both in terms of dining experience and food. First time, waited about 1/2 hour, service was super slow. My daughter and sister got the eggs Benedict with avocado which my sister thought the sauce was very good, and I got the potato pancakes which were good. My sister also got an orange juice which she thought was very good. Second time, waited about 1 1/2 hours (tried sitting on the bar stools but I kept sliding off - extremely uncomfortable). It was pretty miserable, and the hostess seemed to have a pretty bizarre method of determining who was supposed to go next. Food was not great - I had the potato pancakes again which were good again, but the eggs benedict and O.J. were just BAD. How can it be so diffeent within a couple days. HINT (I wish I had thought of this earlier) - if you really want to check this restaurant out, order by phone, pick up your food and eat in peace somewhere (we were staying in a beautiful house on Lagoon Pond - it would have been SO MUCH better than what we did. I feel bad about giving this 2 stars, but as I write this I'm tempted to change it to 1 star. VERY DISAPPOINTED - bleh....

As someone who grew up on the Art Cliff, I have to say that in recent years, their legendary service has been tempered with an artful exploration into new and exciting diner food. I recently was treated to a phenomenal meal which made it well worth the wait- which at about 8AM was close to forty minutes. Once inside, we were served promptly. My advice: get there early and enjoy a hell of a breakfast.

  • Ali G.

Told us would be a 2 minute wait, and then proceeded to have a couple take our seat that had left and came back. The couple ended up leaving after ten minutes of sitting inside at the table we were originally supposed to have....they messed up both my friend and I's orders, took 30+ minutes to make pancakes, and gave me red onions on my eggs Benedict instead of Carmelized. The food was OK. It wasn't terrible but not worth the wait and aggravation. Our bill ended up being $40 for eggs and pancakes...so, not coming back :)

This was the first place for us when we went to MV and if definitely had set a great first impression. The staffs were nice and the owner was there that day. We had the breakfast sandwiches and it was delicious and the huge portion filled us up! Our waitress came and filled up our coffee constantly and they made sure we were comfortable. Our experience was so good we came back the next morning for breakfast as well. It is also a popular destination for the locals too. Will definitely visit again!

This is my favorite breakfast spot on the vineyard by far. The French toast and Home fries/hash browns are sooo good!!!. I see why there is a line to get in . The portions are hugh, the prices are good, the staff friendly and atmosphere is laid bad.

This was a very annoying and disappointing experience. My family came here on the recommendations of literally every guidebook on earth. We understood there would be a wait, which was ok since we expected excellence. When we got there, the hostess told us it would be about 30 minutes. So we put our name on the wait list and sat down at the picnic table they have outside. The restaurant itself is ridiculously small, with maybe 12 tables. Maybe that's why we waited close to an hour and a half to get a table. We showed up at breakfast time but by the time we were seated it was the beginning of lunch. Ridiculous. We were all very hungry. I'm not a breakfast person, so off the bat I asked what type of soup they had that day. They had no soup. OK... I ordered a burger which was mediocre at best. Everyone agreed their food was mediocre and overpriced. Our waitress was inattentive and we had to call over other waitresses numerous times. The music was good, but overpoweringly loud. We were seated in the corner by the kitchen, so we were always in the way of kitchen traffic. Definitely not worth the wait and undeserving of the hype that has been heaped upon it.

This is my favorite breakfast place ever. It has always been worth the, usually substantial, wait for a table. They offer a lot of great twists on the normal American breakfast fare of eggs and pancakes.

Incredible breakfast and so many uniquely enticing options you will want to come back every morning to try them all. The blueberry pancakes were unbelievably delicious, light, flavorful, and way better than I can make at home! The Nutella strawberry sweet panini was a first for me and obviously did not disappoint!! The crepes, the scramble plates...just so many options. Go early, bike if you can cause parking is tight, but well worth the wait if you have to. The waitstaff are attentive and genuinely nice. Even the music in the background seems well thought out. Enjoy!!

Read online reviews before arriving, and did not venture into any of the suggested breakfast choices as they were to exotic for me this morning. Arrived at 8, the place was packed. Walked in and while looking for host/hostess was barked at by a hurried blond with a thick foreign accent, about checking in with the host, who was coming around from the kitchen. I opted to sit at the bar, to avoid confusion. I was seated at the furthest point from the next person. Clearly, they not understand why single diner's sit at the bar? To comingle with the other solo diners, I made friends through the void. Ordered a basic Belgian waffle with sausage and Massachusetts Maple Syrup. The syrup cost extra, and i wouldn't suggest the expense. The waffle was lacking, and sausages were a three on a scale from 1 to 10. I was in and out in 20 minutes and they waitress who did serve me was pleasant, although I am not in a hurry to come back.

As almost all the previous reviews have noted, there's definitely a long wait However, it's not that bad if you kill some time walking around Vineyard Haven or going to the Seaworthy gallery across the way. We got there at 11:40 on a Sunday and were seated by about 1- they told us an hour (not far off). The food was really good. Potato pancakes with homemade apple butter were melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The lunch crepe could have been a little more golden brown, but it was good with the filling I got: goat cheese, red onions, and basil. The green salad it came from was also really well done. We would definitely go back again, regardless of the wait.

I adore the Artcliff Diner, both for brunch and for dinner at the food truck. Yes, the wait is long at brunch, but the food is excellent (mmm spicy chicken hash). The food truck as an ever changing menu during the summer, but if you hit the night of pork tacos, do yourself a favor and get one (or two) - they are delicious!

Food - 4 stars, 2 hour wait - 1 star Arrived at 9AM with a party of 5 on a Friday morning and had to wait 2 hours!!!! Would have been better if we were a smaller party of 2 or 3, as we watched people come and go without moving up. I loved my over-easy eggs and cod cake with wilted arugula. Fresh and delicous! Our table also shared an order of blueberry pancakes with real maple syrup! We licked the plate clean. (A couple in my party was disappointed with their chicken hash.) I liked the place and would eat there again. However, not if I have to wait for 2 hours. Not a good place for large parties.

Before flying out to MA, I did my research on places to try in the Vineyard. I was really looking forward to eating at the Artcliff, but maybe we went at the worst possible time, I was so disappointed! I realize that I probably could have gone to the manager to "fix" what I didn't think was right, but much of it was not "fixable." I don't have any reason to believe that the management wasn't worried about "front of house" business, but the lack of guidance for the front was evident, to me. We went around 10am on a rainy Thursday morning. There were about 20 people waiting on the porch outside. Deb put in her name and we waited outside. I figured maybe 30 minutes to be seated. We waited almost an hour. (It was about 52 minutes, by my watch.) When inside, they sat us a small 2-person table right inside the front door. Jeff had to sit on a chair on the side of the table, blocking the flow of traffic. The waitress asked him to move up, but there was no place to go! Right then, 2 four-person tables opened up. Rather than move us, we were relegated to the small tables. I didn't mind, but the front door swung open several times and almost smacked me. I am a big man (working on getting smaller). I am 6'2" and weigh over 300 pounds. I was ok with being at a smaller table, especially since we waited so long and I didn't want to wait for a bigger table, but the hostess really could have been more vigilant for situations like this and suggest table changes to accommodate those of us who are larger in size. A young lady came to pour some coffee, but we didn't have any creamer. Jeff asked the waitress for some, she never brought it. He had to get up to grab it from the counter. The waitress brought the drinks and didn't return. At one point, the creamer got tipped. I got up to get a rag from the waitress. She didn't even bother to ask what had happened or come to assist us. I was a little stunned. I realize they were busy, but how can you be so busy that you can't check on a probable spill? Deb and Jeff got their food before me, which I anticipated. Deb got some pancakes that had strawberries baked into them. They looked great. She said that they were "light as air." She also got a corned beef hash for the table. It had big chunks of potato and little chips of corned beef. The corned beef had a great flavor. Jeff ordered the breakfast enchiladas. They had black beans, eggs, salsa and avocado/guacamole. He liked it. The sauce had a slight vinegar taste to it, which reminded me of Tabasco. He said that the tortillas were a bit hard. I ordered a frittata, which I figured would take a bit longer, as they are baked. So, when my food came a bit later, I didn't mind. The crock had potatoes on the bottom, some bacon, some tomatoes, scrambled eggs and a bit of melted cheese on top. They may have thrown this into the oven to melt the cheese, but It wasn't a traditional frittata. I was expecting something more like a quiche or thick omelette. It wasn't bad but it wasn't what I was expecting. A few of the potatoes in my dish were burnt solid. A little burnt part adds to the flavor of food, but this was too much. I asked for the multigrain toast. It was good. I asked for a little jam and they brought out a delicious mixed berry jam that was locally made. It had a wonderful flavor, without being too cloying or sticky. A bit more pectin would have made it perfect. The waitress just wasn't attentive. I find that distressing, as we were paying good money The only time she got attentive was when we asked for the check. Then, she was hovering. I had to ask for refills on my water and iced tea. I don't know if the time of day or the season was the reason for the slow down, but I don't recommend going when it is busy. I gave it 2 stars for the corned beef hash and the jam. The rest was just mediocre.

Adjustments: 1) Not all the waitresses are surly. We had a fantastic one today. 2) Beat the lunch rush. 11:40am is the best time to come off-season. 3) Shrimp salad sandwich is the most divine thing ever. 4) I do admit, I'd still be sad if this place was considered the most inventive cooking in my hometown (a claim I've heard echoed by a few...) - I mean, it's good, solid, fresh tasting food - and some of the combinations are outstanding, but it's not unbelievably breathtakingly original. 5) Remember- be zen about when your food comes out. It's the Vineyard way.

Fantastic breakfast today - biggest best breakfast sandwich we have had anywhere - green monster was excellent as well.

We stopped in right after getting off the ferry. Seemed to have plenty of parking to accommodate, and we immediately got a seat at the bar. The sweet potato biscuit and red flannel hash we ordered may have been the best breakfast I've ever had. Legitimately that good. Definitely recommend if you are in Vineyard Haven for breakfast.

Absolutely perfect breakfast! Fresh ingredients, hand cut potatoes local produce. 6 people at breakfast, everyone with a different order, all loved the meal. Very relaxed pace inside, southern island feel. Great music. Love this place, wish I had one near my home.

WOW! loveeeee this place. Such a cute little breakfast spot - you will not be disappointed! My friend has been raving about this place for a couple years now, and I'm glad I got to try it out. Everything on the menu sounds delicious and I wish I could get a sample of each item. So many delicious breakfast treats - from crepes, to waffles, to crab cake benedicts, to breakfast sandwiches. yum! I am a huge sweet and savory girl so I went with the unhealthiest thing I could find - cheddar sausage pancakes w/ maple butter. They were fantastic, but I wish there was more sweet - the butter didn't cut it. And it was WAY too heavy. I finished 1/3 pancakes and was sickeningly full. My friend got the cod cakes which were a little salty, but so good. Lots of fresh flavors. The service was weak, but they were slammed so I guess I'm not blaming them fully. I just hate when the waitress comes to take your order, take your plates when you're done, and that's it. I kept trying to get her attention to get a water.. and it just didn't happen. Oh well. The best part of all is that they have a late night food truck! I bet it's delicious, and I hope I never try it because that will mean I'm drunk and binge eating!! All in all, great success. I will be back!!

I seriously cannot get enough of this place. Yes you will most likely have to wait at least an hour to get in, but it is totally worth it. You really can't go wrong with 90% of the menu. The frittatas are awesome, I've heard the Irish breakfast is a big winner. Be sure to keep your eye on the blackboard loaded with the day's specials. I usually go with those because every time I go in there, they all sound so damn good. Be prepared to wait. Either get there super early or somewhat late if you want to avoid the worst of it.

(update) Reporting the extra tip charge I found in the next month card statement, I tried to reach the owner to report this suspicious act. This is the update what happened next. The owner, GINA, called me after 10 days or so. And, she yelled at me for accusing her staff of charging more tips than the amount I wrote, and She accused me for never coming to the place to report it. Absurd, I called several times(see the previous review), and I would not make their convenience showing up at the door, but I read my card number and the date, and I said I woul show my credit card statement and the original receipt. - She yelled more and hung up. Then, two hours later, she called and apologized for yelling, but still blamed me for not contacting her first. but, other than calling the store several times I did, What else? how? She still didn't offer the difference back to my card although I gave her the details. I reported my bank to fix this matter myself, which cost me the bigger processing fee. For that kind of inconvenience and further cost, I cannot forgive the staff and the owner, altogether. They are more or less the same to me. I wonder what kind of work ethic they live up to, This is a sad way of losing the trust from the local customers for sure. still upsetting to think about the first traumatizing phone call she returned. When you eat at Artcliff, just watch your credit card statement next, yelpers.

Take your friends! Don't Sweat the Wait! This place rocks! This was a major find: an excellent, fun diner, easy to get to. As tourists, we were looking for something on the water, but virtually everyone we asked that lived there or knew the area said that there was only really one place to go. High praise, and this place delivered the goods -- even beyond the hype, which was considerable. The menu was clever and original. The staff was super, if overworked. The prices were moderate, $10 omelettes and $12 waffles, but everyone loved the chow. I had a hangover-helping lamb burger with feta and yogurt (I know, huh?) and it was not only good but up there with the best burger I have ever had. You cannot go in a hurry, so be sure to bring friends. Everything is worth the wait. If you like your New England some hands-off distance with just a touch of a vague smile, don't mind trying a combination of things you have never had together before, and are willing to wait for a table and the food, you cannot do better in VH! Try it once, and you may find yourself there daily as we did.

we went to arcliff diner twice this past weekend when visiting vineyard haven. the waitstaff was really friendly, and there were tons of great options to choose from. on the first day, i got an egg white scramble with smoked salmon and scallions, and on the second, i had the scramble with asparagus, mushrooms, and broccoli. i'm not the biggest eater, and both days i finished the entire thing plus the english muffin! i also helped out with my fiance's bacon and sausage. he also tried the black bean crepe. the crepe was light and spongy, and i couldn't help myself from eating that as well. the diner also had some fun retro signs that gave it a great cozy feel.

Before we discuss the food, let's talk about the wait. What ever they tell you, double it. Forget about the theory of under promising over delivering. We were told 45min-1hr wait. We were seated after 1.5hrs. Of course if we knew it was going to be 1.5hrs we would have left rather than hearing you're next for upwards of 30 min. So here is the problem, after 1.5 hrs of waiting it is difficult to think about enjoying food. That being said the food was good. Was it mind blowing or life changing? Nope. The hash was fantastic. Fish tacos, eh, they were good but not anything special or close to a SoCal fish taco. So the rating, food is a solid 3.5-4, but is it worth 1.5 hr wait? Far from. 20 minute wait, yes. So if you're driving by and there is no wait, go in, you'll have a good meal. If there is a wait out the door, move on and certainly don't trust the wait times.

Great breakfast spot on the island. We were here early both times and loved all the breakfast treats. My egg sandie with spinach & cheese was delightful as was the coffee.

Good, but not great. I'm not a fan of the loudness, or the service. Fair food. I come to the island every year, first weekend of May. Many times this restaurant was making a lot of noise. I only went in, because somebody have told me it was good. Not as good as I'd hoped. Maybe it's just me.

Favorite place for food on the east coast. Hands down. Worth the wait for a table or seat at the counter. The food is ALWAYS good and there is a fantastic menu. Of particular note are the crab cakes which I have not had better anywhere else. The artcliff is also open at night with a truck outside for "greesy spoon" dinner. LOVE IT and the idea. Once again. This is the best place on the island. Highly recommend planning your vacation to get here.

Always worth the wait. After a morning ferry ride, a stop at the Art Cliff is a must. You can't go wrong with the Old Faithful: buttery eggs with potatoes and your choice of meat and toast. Best breakfast on the island.

The crepes are divine. Simple lemon and sugar - done to perfection. Service is friendly. Fresh OJ is tasty. Happy 'retha. OH and I am LOVING their food truck, open outside the restaurant till 2am! Thoughtful, but simple, tasty chow. Won't break your bank.

I live in NYC, but I'm not the least bit tickled by waiting in a huge line to eat. It's a waste of time to wait in line just to pay someone money. It's better to take your appetite down the street. People who wait in line to eat are silly lemmings...OR SO I THOUGHT! Art Cliff, you have me completely turned around!!! We woke up a little late and a LOT hungry. I was ready to take on 6 eggs and all the fixin's, and I was ready to do it ASAP. We rolled up to Art Cliff and were told that it would be a 1 hour wait. My extremely knowledgeable local host suggested that we put our name down and come back in an hour. I was ready to mutiny, but finally deferred since I was outvoted 3 to 1. We went for a drive around town since the front porch was packed and it was drizzling. It was a nice drive...highlights included checking out the gingerbread homes and helping someone rescue a car from the impound lot. By the time we rolled back to Art Cliff (a little past the hour mark), we were fully in the death throes of hunger. Luckily, we were seated very quickly at a nice table in the middle of the place. My buddy pulled out a buddy of BYO champagne and a pitcher of fresh squeezed OJ ($2.50/person) quickly made it's way to the table. We also go some coffee ($1.50/person) and tea ($2/person). The menu was so overwhelmingly delicious looking that we didn't even notice the specials written on boards around the restaurant. I had the hardest time deciding between the various chorizo options, but finally settled on the Bayou Bundle ($10). This proved to be an excellent pick! It was one flour tortilla (buttery and crisp) with a heaping helping of scrambled eggs (we're talking 4-5 eggs worth here - HOLLER!!!) topped with another buttery flour tortilla, topped with melted cheese, topped with avocado salsa, topped with grilled chorizo. When it first got to the table, I thought, "Oh, this isn't so big." Boy was I fooled! I barely had room for my breakfast accompaniment! Since I have no defense against the dark arts wielded by Blueberry Pancakes, I convinced my friends to split an additional tall stack with me (I think it was $9). After all, the table comes with syrup. It would be such a shame to waste table syrup. Believe me when I say these were the best, most fluffy, most blueberry filled, most amazing blueberry pancakes I have EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. As my friend put it, "Cutting through these babies was like cutting through a beautiful blueberry filled cloud." They were so incredible! I usually stop eating when the food starts to taste less delicious, but these never got less delicious, and even though I was completely stuffed, I finished that pancake because it would have been a crime to waste it. I can't wait to go back and have more!!! Definitely worth the wait!

Best Brunch on the Island. No...Scratch that. Best Restaurant period. On the east coast. I still dream about their sweet potato scones. And the frittatas are my go to. Don't try to eat here during the summer without expecting a huge wait though---I usually have luck on 7am side of things...

There is simply no doubt in my mind that Gina Stanley is the best chef on the island. I don't care if she doesn't serve drinks. I don't care that this is a diner, and that she rarely serves dinner, and sometimes closes just because The reality is that her food is unbelievably good. She would shine in any city, and on the island she is solid gold I am completely addicted to her spicy chicken hash- potatoes, chicken, tomatoes, jalapenos, fresh avocado topped with local poached eggs. OH YEAH! I waited for an hour an a half yesterday and it was totally worth it! Her blueberry pancakes are the best I've ever had anywhere (see photo) I don't know what it is she does. Must have somethin' to do with love!

I ate here about two weeks ago. It was before busy season, so no wait, but I understand why people wait to eat here... There are so many tasty sounding menu items it's hard to choose. The specials list also sounded amazing. Good mix of breakfast and lunch items available. Also a good mix of standard items and more creative combinations. I had the chorizo breakfast tacos. Yum yum yum! The others had frittata, tuna salad sandwich and the curry chicken special. The frittata was a little overloaded with brie, but is that ever a bad thing? The tuna sandwich was huge and the chicken curry smelled wonderful. You won't leave here hungry! Our service was great and I liked the diner atmosphere. Can't wait to go back and try the crepes.

One of the best breakfast places on the Island-- pretty cheap but always crowded so expect a wait!! They won't take reservations either. Lots of variety for breakfast, whether you want a savory or sweet breakfast this is a great place to try. They also turn this restaurant into a diner truck at night, which is very popular with the locals.

Really good breakfast... But extremely slow service! We waited about an hour for a table and then about an hour for our food to come out. They have very few tables too- not really sure what the hold up was. All in all kind of disappointed.

Dinner options on MV this winter have greatly improved and a key factor is the Art Cliff. The parking lot is as packed as it is on a hot Sunday morning in August, but it's a bitter cold January night; even the stars look like they are shivering. The menu is eclectic and healthy but very heavy on meat, so if you are a vegetarian or vegan, it's a bit of a challenge. Lamb, duck, chicken- hearty stews. Rich desserts with lots of cream, chocolate and buttery goodness. It's BYOB, of course, and if you sit by the door, that cold island air comes sweeping in with each new entourage. (The larger the group, the longer the open door- brrrr.) No reservations so get there early. It's packed.

My favorite breakfast place! (Although I do love the pancakes at Black Dog!) Nothing is generic, although they do have the basics. They have everything from crepes to loaded breakfast potatoes! Sure, there is usually a wait. Bummer! They have great smoothies. I must say, I hate their iced coffees. (Hot coffee+ice= watery cool coffee not ICED coffee. Put some coffee in the fridge!!!)

We waited about an hour and finally got to sit at the counter. If you aren't patient, this is not the place for you. But once we sat down, the service and food were really great. The frittata was outstanding and the green monsta was wonderful. We will be back.

I had one of the specials of the day, a potato sautee with fresh corn, kale, tomatoes and cheddar cheese....it was incredible! I would highly recommend it, should it ever make an appearance on the specials board again. Just a warning, if you order the almond crusted french toast, it's not just almond crusted, there is almond extract in it. Some people love that flavor, unfortunately my family does not. However, the french toast itself was perfectly cooked and the presentation of everything was beautiful. Definitely worth the wait! (Ours for a table for 3 on a sunday morning was only 20 minutes)

Fabulous breakfast in a diner setting. Really hard to park and typically a wait in the summer, but worth the effort. Yummy breakfast for all tastes, including the mildly vegetarian (not vegan that I could tell). Another favorite on the Island, even my Edgartown friends cross the island for a taste (smile, really, they are like Manhattanites, who won't venture beyond the border).

Three words: Lobster scrambled eggs. Probably one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. It was a long wait and worth every minute of it (great people-watching while we hovered). The locals all laud Artcliff and I can see why. Didn't hurt that it was on Martha's Vineyard - which, for visitors like myself, probably elevated my enthusiasm. Some Yelpers have complained about the service. I would say "Chill, folks. You are on vacation." After all, there is nothing like enjoying a leisurely and delicious breakfast, with no work worries, next to the ocean. Mmmmm.

  • Ridge R.

Hadnt been to the ACD for 20 years. It was a real dive diner then, which was perfect. The Yelpers accolades sent me back last Saturday while hurricane Danny was blowin' through. (Took the tip of parking down the road, tx!) Got there at 1.30 in time to be last to get on the list before closing (2pm, but they served us anyway til 3). Lunch was Outstanding! Fish tacos were super, fresh and zesty with crisp greens on the side. Amelia's french toast was scrumptious. Anne's crepe with calamata olives etc was superior too. A delicious spot to ride out the storm. Thank you Yelpers for steering us right!

Please don't let the 3 stars deter you- I only give them three stars based on the volume they do and the lack of space they have to accommodate. When it comes to breakfast on the Island, finding a good place can be tough, but look no further because Artcliff does breakfast really well. Their menu is extensive and creative, so there is sure to be something on it to please everyone. The retro decor inside paired with the fun music playing leads to a relaxed and playful atmosphere. The fun names on the menu add to it and they follow through on all accounts with a veteran waitstaff that keeps the coffee coming and the guests happy. The food always manages to hit the spot and how could it not with their array of comfort food breakfast faire? French toast, eggs, omelette's, bagels, pastry, pancakes - it's a veritable wonderland of comforting delight! Tip: If you plan on trying them out (and I hope you do!), then get there early!!! They have limited parking there, so if you're not there early to snag a space then you're going to have to get creative with street parking. If you roll up and the lot is full then it's a sure bet there are folks patiently waiting on the porch - let someone in your party jump out and get your name on the list! It's worth the wait however and it seems to move pretty quickly, so hang in there!

After trying a bunch of places, there is no question that the Art Cliff Diner is hands down our favorite place to eat on the Vineyard. We ended up having lunch here twice, both were wonderful experiences. Both times we parked in the Stop & Shop parking lot and walked over to avoid the traffic mess in their tiny lot. And to avoid waiting for a table, both visits we opted for a seat at the counter. Servers were always pleasant, smiling and happy to get us whatever we needed. Both times, I had the lunch crepes - first with mozzarella, tomato and bacon. AMAZING. Second time with mozzarella, cheve (local!) and tomatoes... EVEN BETTER. The salad served on top was a perfect complement and I left full but not stuffed. Husband's entrees (Irish Breakfast one day, club sandwich another) were also well-received. Lunch for 2 was about $25- a steal on this island. Don't miss this place.

My friend and I had a lovely breakfast at Art Cliff last weekend. My friend had the french toast, which consisted of two giant slabs of egg-soaked and grilled to perfection pieces of bread. Seriously- this was bread for Gargantua. I enjoyed the granola with organic yogurt. Sure, I would have loved more yogurt per cup of granola, but it was enough to please. Service was quick and genuinely friendly, despite a crowd that might drive even a seasoned server bonkers. The rest of the menu and specials looked terribly tempting. The only thing I'd recommend taking off the menu is some of the music. There we were peanut butter and jamming to Jeff Buckley and they pour on the John Mayer. Ugh, like faux maple syrup.

Came here with a party of seven. Were told the wait would be 45 minutes. An hour in, we'd invested too much time to leave in a huff. An hour and a half later, we were finally seated, but at a table that hardly accomodated all of us. The food was good but overpriced and not at all worth the wait. The restaurant was understaffed, which meant that my $3 bottomless cup of coffee turned out to have, in fact, a very prominent, oft-exposed bottom.

I went here for lunch today on the recommendation of my grandmother, a seasoned summer islander. I got there a little after 1:20pm, realizing that they close at 2pm. I looked for someone to take my order and when i asked to place one, was told i had to wait and a server would take my order. five minutes went by while i stood in front of the register and then a waitress did finally come by and i placed an order for takeout for 2 sandwiches(the Italian melt with a salad and the steak and cheese with fries) , thinking it would take a short amount of time as most of the patrons sitting were already eating. I was told i could wait outside and my order would be brought to me. Fine. 1:55pm rolls around and i'm getting antsy because my girlfriend and i have to make a 2:30 ferry. i ask the hostess to please check on the takeout order and when she returns, tells me " it's not ready yet." when i asked how long did she think it was going to be, because it had been 20 minutes already, she promptly replied, "you have to wait like everyone else." i immediately explained that i am a sous chef in a restaurant in boston, i've been cooking for 20 years, that i run a 3 cook kitchen and that we serve 250 patrons, that it shouldn't take more than 20 minutes for 2 sandwiches. i was shocked to get in return, this: "i understand what you do, but you have to understand what we do." really? i can understand if i'm asking for a medium well steak and lobster....but we're talking about 2 sandwiches here. i go in to ask how much longer....cause if it's going to be longer than 5 minutes than i need to cancel the order, refund my money and get to the ferry as fast as possible. i am assured it will be 5 minutes or less. 5 minutes roll around on my watch and sure enough, here comes the drab waitress with my takeout order. skip to being on the ferry and opening up our takeout bag; we open up our boxes eagerly and the Italian melt has not come with a salad as ordered and my steak and cheese...well...the steak is dry, gristly and overcooked beyond belief. the onion rings that came with it are overcooked to the point of not being able to bite into them. what passes for mayo has melted into the slightly stale bread, softening it somewhat. the only redeeming part about either of the sandwiches is that the fries appear to be from fresh cut potatoes and are well-seasoned. 2 sandwiches with no drinks.....drum roll please.........came to $25.00. i recommend not going to this restaurant unless you are comfortable with sub-par diner food and surly waitresses to match. oh...and don't come if you actually want to get other activities done during your day.(beach, Aggie Fair, Flying Horses, etc.)

Avoid! Horrible service with inattentive waitstaff. The wait for a table is 30+ minutes during lunch. Food is good but not amazing. No locals here for obvious reasons.

Service was good. Had the 2 eggs with mozzarella grits and prosciutto. I ordered eggs poached. As we all know a wee bit of vinegar helps keep the white together while too much vinegar spells a flavor disaster. Reference the latter. Grits were bland. Ordered a side of multi grain toast which was immediately delivered cold over toasted one side other not toasted at all. I have never had a "good"breakfast here.

First off, the FOOD WAS OF Superior Quality. There were 7 of us and at the table there were 2 glutards (wheat allergy) a vegan, and a pro chef. hard crowd to please to say the least. Everything from the egg-less tofu scramble to the spicy chicken hash to the muffin-less benedicts came exactly as ordered, AND tasted fantastic. This may be part of a greater business plan that seems to be broken down as such: Step one: Make sure your customers wait no less than 1.5 hours before being seated. Step two: Call their names periodically while they are waiting to make sure they haven't taken off and to tease them a little before their morning coffee. Step three: Allow local twelve-year-olds to run the food because it's hard for customers to get mad about the service while financially contributing to child labor. Step four: By the time you serve the food, everyone will be so hungry it really won't matter what you serve them. eat up suckers. you're trapped on an island.

Artcliff can be hit or miss sometimes - this time it was definitely a miss. We waited about 15 minutes for a party of 6 (7 actually since we miscounted), which is not too long on a Sunday AM. It was after Labor Day but still busy on the Island. The waitstaff was fairly quick to take our order. The food was not up to par, however. My friend's toast was burned and my daughter's french toast was eggy and soggy. The entire experience seemed as if they were rushing to get us out. Instead of asking us if we liked our food they just simply brought it out, and then brought us a bill a few minutes later. The worst part, however, was when my wife tried to tell them about the french toast. "Oh, well you should have told us about it sooner, we would have made another one for you." Not what we wanted in the first place, my wife was simply trying to tell them that the french toast was not very good. Artcliff is defnitely off the list for us. Next time we will try State Road Restaurant ( yelp.com/biz/state-road-… ) or go back to the Slice of Life Cafe yelp.com/biz/slice-of-li… for breakfast.

I dream about the almond crusted french toast here. It's sooooo fabulous! Gina Stanley, chef/ owner of this historic little restaurant has transformed what used to be a shoddy Portugese diner into a quaint, bustling restaurant full of delicious surprises. The tables are all gingham red and white with all the condiments on waiting for you at the table. Her menus used to be handwritten but she's since moved into the digital age. :) She collects all sorts of diner memorabilia so you'll find vintage ice chests, the "Cow" which is basically an industrial milk dispenser, cute little posters and signs all over... There's a counter you can sit at and the place is as cute as a button. Never hesistate to order off her specials list. It's what she felt inspired to do that day that's not on the regular menu and it's ALWAYS fantastic. But if you want the tried and true,.... for breakfast get the EGGS BENEDICT. She makes a creamy savory hollandaise sauce with home fries that I like fried crisp. She does a great TOFU SCRAMBLE too and the blueberry pancakes are light and dreamy. If you're coming to the Vineyard for a visit, you'll most likely take a ferry into Vineyard Haven. The Artcliff is a 4 block walk from the ferry terminal and it's a MUST see in my book. She is open for dinner sometimes but you have to call ahead to find out when. FYI, you can buy out the restaurant and host a party. She's had many wedding rehearsal dinners and celebrations at the restaurant. She's tight lipped about it but with some prodding you might get her to tell you some of her celebrity fans.

I love Art Cliff, I got introduced to it the last time I was on island. If I could have a daily breakfast place, this would be it. we ended up going here every day we were there.. What I really want to know is who is the regular gentleman with the dollar signed earings and shirts... he captured our hearts and imaginations..

The best late night burger (the only one) on the island. The Artcliff diner closes around 10pm but they have a food truck outside that stays open until 2am on Friday and Saturday mornings. You can't beat it when you have been out late and have no food in your hotel room. It's cash only from the truck.

This is a pretty good breakfast spot. I had the egg white omelet and my husband had the cheddar sausage pancakes. We both really enjoyed our meals. We got here at about 11:30 AM and didn't have to wait, but locals say that after 10 in the summer, expect a long wait. The food was good and the service was okay. I would definitely go back next time I am on the island.

This place was great. We read the 'complaints' about the wait or the overcharging which I'm glad we dismissed. We went on a Monday morning so we didn't wait at all. The waitress was a sweetheart and very pleasant and the diner itself was happily busy The selection of what to eat for breakfast was overwhelmingly good - my husband and I both got frittatas and both were delicious and plentiful. The coffee kept flowing- it's a great place and I'd go back again no problem.

I ate food from the truck last week. It's a really novel idea in my opinion, as it really increases roadside visibility since the white truck is lit up, and there are people milling about in the parking lot of the diner, waiting for food or eating food on a few picnic tables behind the truck. There is a regular menu comprised of a few different sandwiches, and a couple of specials as written with markers on white paper. I got a pulled pork sandwich, and it was one of the best $6 I spent on the island. Then again, you could spend $6 on half-spoiled zucchini at a market on the island. The pork was probably slow cooked in a crock pot, but it was flavorful. Good deal. There were other options that were similarly priced, and looked pretty tasty. You'd be hard pressed to find food as good served out of a truck in Boston, that's for sure.

I had been to Artcliff for breakfast in June and was impressed by the delicious breakfast - both my savory egg dish and the sweet pancakes were delicious. So we went back for dinner the other night. They serve dinner from a truck parked in the driveway, so you order your food from a woman standing by the truck, and then you sit on picnic tables in the parking lot. It may sound weird, but it's actually pretty cute. I had french fries (average) and the special fingerling potato fries (delicious) and the turkey burger with cheese and bacon, which was awesome. The roll was particularly good: not too bulky and just a touch of sweetness. We brought our own beer, so dinner was cheap!

Took way too long! But I'd go back for the eggs benedict.

Very busy place but got seated immediately. Food was pretty good, no complaints. A little pricey for breakfast. Waitress was nice enough but never checked on us once we got our food. Still we would return...

Simply awesome breakfast food. I had the 3 egg omelet and it didnt disappoint. A nice plus was the 7-grain toast to make me FEEL a bit healthier :) Expect a long wait on the weekends. We waited 45 min. to get in but there are benches outside to wait on. Parking severely limited so ride your bike in :) Or expect to park elsewhere and walk.

i even loved this place in its former incarnation as an actual greasy spoon (i guess it was around back in the 1940's till the '90's). i had a boyfriend in college who breakfast cheffed there back in the day (not the '40's, but still a lifetime ago). when they sold the place to its current chef-owner it became very rapidly one of the most popular dining spots on the island. creative, delicious, healthy food at fair prices- what more could anyone ask for? ps- no wine or beer sales, but you may byob.

My favorite breakfast spot on the Vineyard. I would never try to get in at the busy times (weekends, any morning in august) but in the off season its easy to get seated in a timely fashion. The staff is busy but very accommodating, and the food is AWESOME. My favorite breakfast is codfish cakes and eggs with a rich bernaise sauce and mustard oil, served over arugala. It cost about 11 dollars, but it fills you up till dinner.

I had heard from everyone on the island that Art Cliff Diner has the best breakfast on the island, but the wait is LONG. That is what I knew going in, and Art Cliff Diner didn't disappoint. The Diner is very small, with a tiny porch that is packed with people waiting for a table. There are maybe 15 or so tables inside (including the counter), so it gets full easily, especially as there are usually families of 4+ people wanting to get breakfast. I recommend that you consider sitting at the counter if you have a smaller group, since the larger groups all vie for one of the 6 or so tables that can accommodate them. The menu and the service is a little bit kooky. As I mentioned, the Diner is small, so it shouldn't be too difficult for the waitress to maneuver around and keep the bottomless coffee coming. They seem very hurried, though, and a bit forgetful. My waitress decided it would just be better to pour me two cups, so she wouldn't have to come back for a refill. That just left me with one cup of cold coffee. I must give props to her, though, since she got our order right & my brunch companion did have a relatively complicated order. Be aware, though, that this restaurant does not like to make substitutions even though every other brunch place is usually pretty willing to do so. We grudgingly got our waitress to agree to a substitution of home fries for bacon with a charge of the difference (we have no problem with the charge, but it shouldn't have been such a complicated change to make. Our waitress would have liked to have just served my friend's meal without the home fries and screwed her out of a side and $2). The food was delicious, although not out-of-this-world. I really enjoyed their (homemade?) blueberry jam and my potato pancakes with homemade apple butter. My friend enjoyed her omelet, although she says she has had better, and her toast was burned to a crisp. You can get local farm fresh eggs for an extra charge to support local businesses (wouldn't it make sense to just purchase all the eggs from local farms? But at least they're trying?!?). Also, you can get a side of 100% Massachusetts Maple Syrup for $2.50. I just find both ideas very kooky. The menu is pretty pricey for what you get (a small bowl of fresh fruit is $6--with apples, melons, and so forth. Not worth it, IMO), but I thought the entrees had decent portions (I only got the short stack of pancakes & I was satisfied). Our waitress was not attentive as we'd have liked, but she tried to be chatty when she did come around. Overall, I think this place could be great, if they could work on their organization. I bet it's nice to come in the off-season, too.

i would have given 4 stars but they took the only thing i went there for off the menu !!! THE UP ISLANDER Why do such a thing. scrambled eggs with lobster and cream cheese on top of some awesome home fries. There is nothing else here worth waiting for 45 minutes for !! i will not be going here any more. the only good part of my last trip there was having breakfast at a table next to Ted Danson and his wife. no up islander no more customer !!!!!!!

The food here is fabulous ... creative and delicious. I've tried everything from the cajun bundle and drunken sailor pancakes for breakfast (along with some specials) to the "pig-out" pork sandwich for lunch. And in the evening, a pork burrito or lamb sandwich from the diner truck in the parking lot. All of it was exceptional, but the best may have been a dessert they were serving at the diner truck one night -- an "eggroll" wrapper stuffed with apples and other stuff and drizzled with chocolate sauce. Yum! The wait staff is friendly and reasonably efficient. Sure it's crowdec at times, but that's not their "fault" ... eat early or late to avoid the rush.

The Mr. T was tasty. Server was nice and chatty. And we got lucky with the line.
